Description
Mortlach 16 Year Old "Distiller's Dram" is a robust Speyside single malt matured exclusively in sherry casks. It is inspired by the iconic 1992 "Flora & Fauna" bottling and is known as the "Beast of Dufftown" due to its famously complex 2.81 distillation process and "meaty" character.
While "The Wee Witchie" is the official name for the 12-year-old expression (named after the distillery's smallest still), the 16-year-old is officially dubbed the "Distiller's Dram.
Tasting notes
Nose: Bold and complex with stewed black orchard fruits, earthy spice, and rich notes of raisins, dates, and light leather.
Palate: Full-bodied and palate-coating with a "meaty" or "muscular" texture. Initial sweetness of apricot, honey, and hard caramel gives way to savory notes of leathery spice, dark chocolate, and dark fruits like prunes and figs.
Finish: Long and complex, transitioning from savory oak and spice to a surprising sweetening at the end.
